No. 367 - The Word of Truth

Seeking the Truth

The Word of Truth

John 17:17
"Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth."

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, as I come before You today, I ask for Your guidance and wisdom to understand the truth found in Your word. Open my heart and mind to receive the message of truth as revealed in Your holy Scriptures. May Your truth change me and lead me closer to You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background
In John 17, we see a prayer offered by Jesus just before His arrest and crucifixion. This chapter is often referred to as the High Priestly Prayer, where Jesus intercedes not only for His disciples but also for all who would believe in Him through their message. In verse 17, Jesus prays for the sanctification of His followers through the truth, which He declares to be God's word. Today's title sets the tone for this week's theme by focusing on the role of truth in our spiritual growth.

Be Encouraged
The word of God is the foundation of truth. In a world full of misinformation and distractions, we are reminded that only God's word can lead us to true sanctification. Just as Jesus prayed for His disciples, He also prays for us to be sanctified by the truth. This truth is not subjective; it is absolute, found only in the Scriptures. Take comfort in knowing that as long as you hold fast to God's word, you are being made holy in His sight.

Application
The Bible says in Psalm 119:160, "The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever." We can rely on God’s word as the ultimate guide for our lives. In our daily struggles, whether in relationships, work, or personal decisions, we often seek answers in the wrong places. However, the truth we need is already given to us in the Scriptures.

James 1:22 reminds us, "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." It is not enough to merely know the truth; we must live by it. For example, in situations where you are tempted to compromise your values, the truth of God's word gives you the strength to stand firm. Let the word of truth be your moral compass, helping you go through life’s difficult choices with integrity.

Invitation
If you are yet to surrender your life to Christ, today is the perfect time to seek the truth. God's word, the Bible, contains everything you need to be saved and to live a life pleasing to Him. I encourage you to visit a nearby church of Christ where you will be assisted to obey the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all your past sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). Once you obey, the Lord will add you to His church, where you can continue learning more about God and putting Christ's commandments into practice (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:47). Do not delay—accept the truth today. As you meditate on the message of truth, I invite you to share this with your loved ones, that they too may be blessed.

Concluding Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for revealing Your truth to me today through Your word. Help me to apply this truth to my life and to walk faithfully in Your ways. May Your word continue to sanctify me, keeping me holy and close to You. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
