No. 347 – Surrendering Through Faith
Responding to God's Gift of Salvation
Surrendering Through Faith
Hebrews 11:6
"But
without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must
believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek
Him."
Starting
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, as I reflect on what it means to surrender through faith, please open
my heart to fully trust in You. Help me to grow in my faith and to seek You
earnestly each day. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
Hebrews 11, often called the "Faith
Chapter," highlights the lives of people in the Bible who demonstrated
great faith in God. This chapter describes how faith is not just belief, but
also trust and action. Hebrews 11:6, the verse for today, emphasises that faith
is essential to please God. It reminds us that coming to God requires both
belief in His existence and trust that He rewards those who seek Him earnestly.
Be Encouraged
Faith is the foundation of our relationship with God.
It’s more than
just believing in His existence; it’s trusting in His promises and acting on
that trust. When we surrender through faith, we acknowledge that we cannot save
ourselves and that we need God’s grace to lead us. In the Bible, we see many
examples of people who demonstrated this kind of faith. Abraham, for instance,
left his home not knowing where he was going, but trusting that God would guide
him (Hebrews 11:8). Faith involves taking steps that might seem uncertain, but
with the confidence that God is in control.
Saving faith
is not just an intellectual agreement with the truths about God; it is a deep,
active trust in Him. As James reminds us, "faith without works is
dead" (James 2:17). This means that our faith should be visible in our
actions—how we live, how we treat others, and how we follow God's commandments.
When we truly trust God, we will live according to His will, showing our faith
through our deeds. This active faith is what pleases God and what leads to the
reward of eternal life.
Application
To surrender
through faith means to fully trust in God and to live out that trust in our
daily lives. Jesus said, "If you
love Me, keep My commandments" (John 14:15). Our faith in Christ
should lead us to obey Him, not out of fear, but out of love and trust. Take
time today to reflect on how your faith is being lived out. Are there areas of
your life where you need to trust God more? Remember that faith comes by
hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17), so immerse yourself in Scripture and
let it strengthen your faith.
Invitation
If you have
not yet committed your life to Christ, now is the time to take that step of
faith. Visit any nearby Church of Christ, where you can learn more about how to
obey the gospel and surrender your life to Jesus. Through faith (Hebrews 11:6),
repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of
all past sins and your salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38), you can receive the
gift of salvation. The Lord will add you to His church, where you can continue
to grow in your faith and follow His commandments (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts
2:47). Do not wait—make the decision today to trust in Jesus and begin your
journey of faith. Share this message with those you love, so they too can
experience the joy of salvation.
Concluding Prayer
Lord, I am grateful for the reminder that
faith is essential to please You. Thank You for the gift of salvation that
comes through trusting in You. Help me to grow in my faith and to live in a way
that honours You. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
May the Lord
bless your day.
