No. 366 - Be Holy in All Your Conduct

The Call to Spiritual Holiness

Be Holy in All Your Conduct

1 Peter 1:15

"But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct."

Prayer

Dear God, help me to reflect Your holiness in every part of my life. Guide me to live in a way that honours You and follows Your example. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In 1 Peter 1, the Apostle Peter writes to the Christians scattered across various regions, encouraging them to live a holy life. He reminds them that God, who called them, is holy and expects them to be holy in their behaviour. Peter’s letter was written to strengthen believers facing trials and to urge them to remain steadfast in their faith by living according to God's standards. Today’s focus on holiness wraps up our weekly theme and underscores the call to reflect God’s purity in our lives.

Be Encouraged

The call to holiness in 1 Peter 1:15 is both a challenge and a promise. For instance, if you have been struggling with actions that do not reflect God’s character, such as dishonesty or unkindness, this verse encourages you to strive for change. By focusing on being holy in all your actions, you can transform these areas of your life and become a better reflection of God’s holiness. Your commitment to this standard will help you overcome struggles and grow spiritually.

Application

In Ephesians 5:1-2, we are encouraged to “Be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” This passage teaches us to live in love and imitation of Christ, who exemplified holiness. For example, if you are dealing with conflicts in your relationships, approaching them with love and forgiveness can help you embody the holiness that God calls us to.

Another relevant verse is 1 Thessalonians 4:7, “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.” This verse reinforces that our calling is to live a pure and holy life. If you find yourself tempted to engage in behaviours that are not in line with this calling, remember that God’s grace enables you to choose holiness over sin.

Invitation

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, I encourage you to visit a nearby Church of Christ. There, you will receive guidance on obeying the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all your past sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). By doing this, you will be added to His church, where you will learn more about God and put into practice Christ’s commandments (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:47). Embrace the call to spiritual holiness and let today’s message inspire you to live a life that honours God. Share this message with others and encourage them to follow Christ as well.

Concluding Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for the guidance to live a holy life. Help me to follow Your example and reflect Your holiness in all I do. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
