Our Momentary Troubles Bring Eternal Glory

Keeping Hope of Eternal Life Alive

Our Momentary Troubles Bring Eternal Glory

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Background

In 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, the apostle Paul reflects on the challenges faced by believers in Corinth. He compares their momentary troubles to the eternal glory that awaits them in Christ. Paul reminds them that these hardships, though difficult, serve a greater purpose. They are shaping and preparing the believers for the glorious eternity that God has promised.

Be Encouraged

As you begin this day, consider the profound words of 2 Corinthians 4:17-18. Life often presents us with trials, challenges, and difficulties that can be overwhelming. Yet, Paul encourages us to see these troubles in a different light. He calls them "light momentary afflictions" when compared to the eternal weight of glory that awaits us. This perspective shift reminds us that our present struggles are temporary, while the glory we will experience in Christ is everlasting.

Supporting Verses

Romans 8:18: "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

Psalm 34:19: "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all."

As you face challenges today, remember that they are part of a grander plan. They are preparing you for an eternity of unimaginable glory in the presence of God. Fix your gaze on the eternal and trust that God is using every trial to mold you into the person He designed you to be.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank you for the promise of eternal glory that outweighs any troubles I may face in this life. Help me keep my eyes fixed on the eternal and not be discouraged by momentary difficulties. Strengthen my faith and grant me the grace to endure, knowing that You are with me through it all. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
