Drawing Closer to God
Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness
Matthew
5:6 (ESV) "Blessed
are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be
satisfied."
Background
In Matthew 5:6, we find Jesus delivering
the Sermon on the Mount. This sermon is a pivotal moment in His ministry, where
He imparts essential teachings to His disciples and the gathered crowd. Matthew
5:6, from the ESV, states: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for
righteousness, for they shall be satisfied." In this verse, Jesus
encourages His followers to seek righteousness with a deep, earnest desire,
promising that their hunger and thirst for it will ultimately be fulfilled.
Be
Encouraged
Jesus' words in Matthew 5:6 remind us of
the blessedness of pursuing righteousness. It's a reminder that our spiritual
journey is marked by a hunger and thirst for a right relationship with God and
living according to His ways. Sometimes, we may feel like we're striving in
vain or facing challenges that test our faith, but take heart, for God sees
your hunger, your longing for righteousness, and He promises satisfaction. Draw
near to Him through prayer, reading His Word, and seeking His guidance, knowing
that He is faithful to fill your heart and life with His righteousness.
