Setting Your Mind on Heavenly Things
Drawing Closer to God
Setting Your Mind on Heavenly Things
Colossians
3:1-2 (KJV): "If
ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ
sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on
things on the earth."
Background
The letter to the Colossians, written by
the apostle Paul, offers profound insights into Christian living. In Colossians
3:1-2, Paul encourages believers to set their minds on heavenly things. He
reminds them that if they have been raised with Christ, their focus should
shift to the eternal, where Christ reigns at God's right hand. This passage
calls for a deliberate redirection of affection and attention away from earthly
concerns toward heavenly matters.
Be
Encouraged
As you begin this day, ponder the words of
Colossians 3:1-2: "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things
which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your
affection on things above, not on things on the earth." These verses are a
call to a higher perspective, a reminder that you are spiritually united with
Christ. You are invited to seek the things of heaven, where Christ's glory and
majesty reign supreme.
Consider this as an invitation to reset
your focus. In the midst of life's demands and distractions, intentionally set
your mind on heavenly things. It's not a call to detach from earthly
responsibilities, but a call to view them from a heavenly perspective. Let the
love, peace, and righteousness of Christ guide your thoughts and actions. As
you seek God's kingdom first, everything else falls into its rightful place.
Supporting
Verses
Matthew 6:33 (ESV): "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all
these things will be added to you."
Philippians 4:8 (KJV): "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things
are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever
things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any
virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
As you embark on this day, may your mind be
steadfastly set on heavenly things. Share this message of spiritual focus with
others, encouraging them to seek God's kingdom and righteousness above all
else. May your journey of drawing closer to God continue, transforming your
heart and the hearts of those around you.
Prayer
Heavenly
Father, I align my heart with the truth of Colossians 3:1-2. I seek the things
above, where Christ reigns. Help me set my mind on heavenly things and view the
challenges of this world through the lens of Your eternal perspective. May my
thoughts, affections, and actions reflect Your kingdom. In Jesus' name I pray,
Amen.
