The Model Prayer
Speaking to God in Prayer
The Model Prayer
Matthew 6:9-13
(ESV) “Pray then like
this: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come,
your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead
us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
Background
In
Matthew 6:9-13, often referred to as the Lord's Prayer, Jesus provides a model
for how believers should approach God in prayer. Addressing God as our Father,
Jesus teaches the importance of acknowledging God's holiness, submitting to His
will, seeking daily provision, asking for forgiveness, and requesting
deliverance from temptation. This prayer serves as a guide for heartfelt
communication with our Heavenly Father.
Encouragement
Jesus'
teaching on prayer reassures us that we can approach God with simplicity and
sincerity. The Lord's Prayer reminds us of God's sovereignty, love, and
provision. Through this model, we learn to align our desires with God's will,
fostering a deeper connection in our relationship with Him. In our daily
prayers, let us reflect on the elements of this model and cultivate a spirit of
humility, dependence, and trust.
Supporting Verses
Philippians
4:6-7 - "Do not be anxious about
anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let
your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
1
John 5:14 - "And this is the
confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his
will he hears us."
Prayer
Heavenly Father, as I reflect on the model
prayer Jesus provided, I am grateful for the guidance it offers in my
conversations with You. May my prayers reflect a heart aligned with Your will,
and may I find comfort in the simplicity of approaching You as my Father. In
Jesus' name, Amen.
God bless you
