The Scriptures Bear Witness
Let God Speak to You Through His Word
The Scriptures Bear Witness
John 5:39 (ESV)
"You search the Scriptures because
you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness
about me."
Background
In
John 5:39, Jesus addresses a common practice among the religious leaders of His
time. They diligently searched the Scriptures, believing that they held the key
to eternal life. However, Jesus enlightens them that the purpose of the
Scriptures is not merely a set of rules or doctrines but to bear witness to
Him. Every page, prophecy, and teaching within the Word of God ultimately
points to Christ. The Scriptures reveal the story of salvation and the
character of God. When we study the Word, we come to know Jesus more deeply and
intimately.
Encouragement
As
you engage with God's Word, recognize that it is not just a book of religious
principles but a personal testimony to the life, ministry, and purpose of Jesus
Christ. Let your study of the Scriptures lead you into a closer relationship
with the Saviour. The more you understand the Word, the more you understand
Jesus and the depth of His love for you. So, let today's meditation encourage
you to approach the Scriptures with fresh eyes, knowing that they bear witness
to the One who gives us eternal life.
Supporting Verses
Luke
24:27 (ESV): "And beginning with
Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the
things concerning himself."
2
Timothy 3:16 (ESV): "All Scripture
is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for
correction, and for training in righteousness."
Prayer
Dear Lord, as I delve into your Word, *may
I find you at every turn.* Let my study of the Scriptures draw me nearer to you
and deepen my understanding of your love and grace. In Jesus' name I pray.
Amen.
May God’s message bless you
