A Call to Unity

The Unity of the Lord’s Church

A Call to Unity

Ephesians 4:1-2

"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."

Starting Prayer

Father, open my heart to your word today. Help me to understand and apply this truth to my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Ephesians 4 is a plea for unity within the body of Christ. The church is a diverse group of people, yet we are called to be one in our faith and practice. The passage we're considering today, verses 1-2, highlights the virtues that should characterize our interactions with each other.

Be Encouraged

Humility, gentleness, patience, and love are essential qualities for maintaining unity. Humility keeps us from thinking too highly of ourselves and belittling others. Gentleness prevents us from speaking or acting harshly towards each other. Patience enables us to endure the shortcomings of others without becoming frustrated. And love is the glue that binds us together, motivating us to forgive, restore, and build up one another.

"Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do." (Colossians 3:12-13)

Invitation

In today's world, unity seems more elusive than ever. But as Christians, we are called to be an example of hope and a model of unity in our divided society. Let's commit ourselves to living out the principles of Ephesians 4:1-2 in our interactions with others, both inside and outside the church.

If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, I invite you to do so today. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31). Repent of your sins and be baptized for the forgiveness of all your past sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).

Share this message with your loved ones and invite them to join us on this journey of unity. Visit a Church of Christ near you, where you can experience the love and unity of the body of Christ.

Concluding Prayer

Father, thank you for the reminder that unity is essential in your church. Help me to embody the virtues of humility, gentleness, patience, and love. Guide me as I strive to be a peacemaker and a bridge-builder in your name. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Please share your thoughts on today's meditation with me. I'd love to hear from you.

May the Lord bless your day.
