No.250 - Love Fulfils the Law

The Love of God’s Children"

Love Fulfils the Law"

 Romans 13:10

"Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."

Starting Prayer

Lord, grant me understanding as I reflect on Your Word today. Help me to grasp the depth of Your love and how it fulfils Your law. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In Romans 13, Paul addresses the importance of living in obedience to God's law and authorities. He emphasises that love is the essence of fulfilling the law. Verse 10 succinctly captures this idea by stating that love does no wrong to a neighbour and thus fulfills the entire law. Paul encourages believers to love one another genuinely, treating others with kindness, respect, and compassion. This love reflects God's character and His desire for His children to live in harmony and righteousness.

Be Encouraged

Paul's message in Romans 13:10 reminds us that love is not merely a feeling but an active expression of obedience to God's commandments. When we love our neighbours as ourselves, we naturally fulfill the requirements of God's law. This love goes beyond mere compliance with rules; it seeks the well-being of others and builds up the community. Just as Christ demonstrated His love by sacrificing Himself for us, we are called to love sacrificially, putting the needs of others before our own.

Consider the practical implications of love in our daily lives. It means treating others with respect and kindness, forgiving those who wrong us, and seeking reconciliation rather than revenge. When faced with difficult decisions, let love be our guiding principle, knowing that it is the pathway to fulfilling God's law and bringing glory to His name.

Additional Verses

- Galatians 5:14: "For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"

- 1 John 4:11: "Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."

Invitation

I invite you to experience the transforming power of love. As we strive to love one another as Christ loves us, we fulfill the law and reflect the character of God to the world. If you have not committed your life to Christ, the Lord invites you to obey the Gospel through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). Join us in worship at a local Church of Christ near you, where you can grow in love and fellowship with fellow believers.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank you for the revelation that love fulfils Your law. Help me to love others genuinely and selflessly, reflecting Your love in all I do. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
