Using Our Gifts for God's Glory

The Diversity of God’s Gifts

No. 239: Using Our Gifts for God's Glory

 Romans 12:6-8

"Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness."

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, grant me insight into how to use the gifts You've given me for Your glory. Guide me in understanding Your Word and applying it to my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In Romans 12, Paul exhorts believers to use their spiritual gifts for the benefit of the body of Christ. He emphasizes that each believer has been given different gifts according to God's grace. The selected verses highlight various spiritual gifts such as prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, contribution, leadership, and acts of mercy, urging believers to use them diligently.

Be Encouraged

Imagine a toolbox filled with different tools, each serving a specific purpose. Just as a carpenter uses different tools to build a house, God has equipped each believer with unique gifts to build up His church. Whether it's through preaching, serving, giving, or leading, every believer has a role to play in advancing God's kingdom.

Consider a sports team where each player has a specific position and skill set. Similarly, in the body of Christ, we complement one another with our diverse gifts. When we use our gifts in harmony, the church functions effectively, and God's work is accomplished with excellence.

Additional Verses

- 1 Corinthians 12:12: "For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ."

- 1 Peter 4:10: "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace."

Invitation

Let us not bury our talents but invest them wisely for the glory of God. As we use our gifts faithfully, we bring honour to God and edify His church.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank You for the diverse gifts You've given me. Help me to use them faithfully for Your glory and the benefit of others. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
