No.249 Love Never Fails

The Love of God’s Children

Love Never Fails

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
"Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends."
Starting Prayer
Lord, grant me wisdom and understanding as I delve into Your Word today. Help me to grasp the true meaning of love and how it never fails. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
In 1 Corinthians 13, often called the "Love Chapter," the apostle Paul writes about the supremacy of love. He addresses the Corinthian church's divisions and emphasises that love is the highest virtue. The selected verses outline the characteristics of genuine love: patience, kindness, humility, selflessness, forgiveness, and perseverance. Paul underscores that love is eternal, contrasting it with temporary spiritual gifts. Today's focus on "Love Never Fails" highlights the enduring nature of love as a central theme in the lives of God's children.
Be Encouraged
Love, as described in 1 Corinthians 13, is not merely an emotion but a deliberate choice and action. It is patient in times of waiting, kind in times of difficulty, and humble in times of success. Love seeks the well-being of others above self-interest and does not keep a record of wrongs. When we encounter challenges in relationships, whether with family, friends, or neighbours, let us remember the example of love set by Christ Himself.

Imagine a world where love guides every decision and action, where conflicts are resolved with patience and understanding, and where forgiveness flows freely. This is the world God desires for His children. As followers of Christ, we are called to embody this sacrificial love in all aspects of our lives. When we choose to love unconditionally, we reflect the very character of God and draw others closer to Him.
Additional Verses
- 1 John 4:18: "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love."
- John 15:13: "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
Invitation
Let us commit ourselves to living out the love described in 1 Corinthians 13, knowing that love never fails.. If you have not obeyed the gospel, I invite you to do so now, and experience the transformative power of God's love. You obey the gospel through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). Join us in worship at a local Church of Christ near you, where you can be part of a loving community dedicated to serving God and one another.
Concluding Prayer
Lord, thank you for the reminder that Your love never fails. Help me to love others with the same selfless and enduring love that You have shown me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
May the Lord bless your day.
