No.247 - Serving Christ in Others

The Service of God’s Servants

No.247 -
Serving Christ in Others

 Matthew 25:40

"And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'"

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, grant me the wisdom to recognize opportunities to serve You through serving others. Help me to understand the significance of my actions in light of Your words. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In Matthew 25, Jesus teaches about the final judgment, illustrating the importance of serving others as a reflection of serving Him. The selected verse emphasizes that whatever service we render to the least among us, we do it to Christ Himself. This profound statement underscores the significance of showing love and compassion to those in need, as our actions toward them directly impact our relationship with God. Today's title, "Serving Christ in Others," encapsulates the essence of this week's theme on the service of God's servants.

Be Encouraged

Imagine a community where individuals selflessly serve one another, showing kindness, compassion, and generosity without expecting anything in return. Picture a volunteer who spends their weekends helping elderly neighbors with household chores, knowing that in doing so, they honor and serve Christ Himself. Similarly, each act of kindness, whether big or small, toward those in need is regarded by God as an act of service to Him. When we feed the hungry, clothe the naked, or comfort the distressed, we are serving Christ in others and fulfilling His command to love our neighbors as ourselves.

As we strive to embody the love of Christ in our daily lives, let us be encouraged by the assurance that our service is not in vain. Every act of kindness, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is recognized and valued by our heavenly Father. Let us, therefore, continue to serve others with humility and compassion, knowing that in doing so, we serve the King of kings.

Additional Verses

- Hebrews 6:10: "For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do."

- 1 John 4:20: "If anyone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen."

Invitation

I invite you to accept the call to serve with a willing heart. If you have not yet obeyed the gospel, what are you waiting for? You can obey the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). Let us serve others with sincerity and joy, knowing that our service is ultimately unto the Lord. Join us in worship and service at a local church of Christ, where you can grow in your understanding of God's will and serve alongside fellow believers.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank you for the reminder that serving others is serving You. Help me to see the opportunities to serve You in those around me and to do so with joy and humility. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
