No. 257 - A Mother's Compassion
The Compassion of God’s Heart
A Mother's Compassion
Isaiah 49:15
"Can a
woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son
of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you."
Starting Prayer
Dear Lord,
grant me insight into Your Word today as I reflect on the theme of compassion.
Help me understand Your unending love and care for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
Isaiah 49
portrays the servant of the Lord who brings salvation to Israel and the
nations. In verse 15, God uses the analogy of a mother's love for her child to
illustrate His deep compassion for His people. Just as a mother's love and care
for her child are profound and enduring, God's love for His children is even
greater. This verse reassures us of God's unwavering commitment to His people,
despite any human shortcomings. His compassion extends beyond any human comprehension
or comparison.
Be Encouraged
God's
declaration in Isaiah 49:15 serves as a powerful reminder of His boundless love
and compassion for each one of us. Just as a mother's love is tender,
nurturing, and unfailing, so is God's love for His children. No matter how
challenging life may be or how distant we may feel from God, His love remains
constant and unchanging. In times of doubt or difficulty, we can find comfort
in knowing that God's compassion towards us is as sure as a mother's love for
her child.
Additional Verses
- Psalm
103:13: "As a father shows
compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear
him."
-
Lamentations 3:22-23: "The steadfast
love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new
every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Invitation
God's love
knows no bounds, and He eagerly awaits your response to His invitation if you
have not yet given your life to Christ. Visit us at a nearby church of Christ

you to experience the depth of His compassion by embracing His offer of
salvation through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38;
17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).
Concluding Prayer
Thank you,
Lord, for the assurance of Your unfailing love and compassion. Help me to trust
in Your care for me each day. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
May the Lord bless your day.
