No. 281 - Doers of the Word

The Obedience of God’s Will

Doers of the Word

James 1:22

"But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to understand and apply Your Word in my life. Guide me to be a doer of Your Word, living out Your will each day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

The book of James is a practical guide for Christian living. It emphasises the importance of living out our faith through our actions. In James 1:22, we are reminded that merely hearing the Word is not enough; we must also put it into practice. This verse challenges us to align our actions with our faith.

Be Encouraged

Hearing God's Word is crucial, but it is only the first step. Imagine a person who reads about healthy eating but never changes their diet. They gain knowledge but no real benefit. Similarly, if we hear God's Word but do not act on it, we deceive ourselves and miss the blessings that come from obedience.

Living as a doer of the Word transforms us and those around us. Consider the story of a man who heard a sermon about helping the needy and decided to volunteer at a local shelter. His actions not only blessed others but also brought him joy and a deeper connection with God. When we act on God's Word, we experience its power in our lives and become a light to those around us.

Application

Reflect on these verses: Luke 11:28, "But he said, 'Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!'" and Matthew 7:24, "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock."

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to visit any nearby Church of Christ to be assisted in obeying the gospel of Christ: through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you can continue to learn and grow in your relationship with Him (Matthew 28:18-20).

Let us strive to be doers of the Word. May our lives reflect our commitment to God's will, inspiring others to seek Him and live according to His teachings. Share this message with your loved ones and encourage them to act on God's Word daily.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank You for the reminder to be a doer of Your Word. Help me to live out Your teachings each day, bringing glory to Your name and blessings to those around me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
