No. 258 - Comfort in Affliction
The Compassion of God’s Heart
Comfort in Affliction
2 Corinthians 1:3
"Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God
of all comfort."
Starting Prayer
Dear Lord, as
I reflect on Your Word today, grant me insight into Your compassion and
comfort. Help me understand how Your love sustains us in times of trouble. In
Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
In 2
Corinthians 1, Paul speaks of the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our
afflictions so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction
with the comfort we receive from God. This chapter reveals Paul's own trials
and sufferings and how God's comfort sustained him. The verse for today, 2
Corinthians 1:3, acknowledges God as the source of all comfort, highlighting
His compassionate nature and His role in comforting His people amidst their
struggles.
Be Encouraged
2 Corinthians 1:3 reminds us that God is the ultimate source of comfort in our times of affliction. Just as a loving father consoles his children in distress, God, our heavenly Father, offers His comforting presence and reassurance during our trials. His comfort is not merely a fleeting emotion but a profound sense of peace and strength that sustains us through the darkest moments. When we experience God's comfort, we are equipped to share that same comfort with others who are hurting, becoming channels of His compassion and grace.
Additional Verses
- Psalm 23:4:
"Even though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your
rod and your staff, they comfort me."
- Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."

May the Lord bless your day.
