No. 273 - Exalted by God
The Humility of God’s Son
Exalted by God
James 4:10
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you."
Starting Prayer
Dear Lord, open my heart and mind to understand the importance of humility in my life. Help me to live humbly before You every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
The book of James is filled with practical wisdom for Christian living. In James 4, James addresses conflicts and pride among believers. He urges them to submit to God and resist the devil, highlighting the need for humility. Verse 10 reminds us that when we humble ourselves before God, He will lift us up.
Be Encouraged
Humility is often misunderstood in our world. Many see it as weakness, but in God's eyes, humility is a powerful strength. When we humble ourselves before God, we acknowledge His sovereignty and our dependence on Him. This act of humility opens the door for God's grace and blessings in our lives. Imagine a plant bowing down under the weight of rain, only to stand tall and flourish when the sun shines again. Similarly, when we bow before God, He lifts us up and helps us to flourish.
Think about times in your life when pride may have led to conflict or stress. Now, imagine approaching those situations with a humble heart, seeking God's guidance and putting others first. Humility doesn't mean thinking less of yourself; it means thinking of yourself less. It's about recognising our place before God and allowing Him to work through us. As we practice humility, we reflect the character of Jesus and become a source of peace and encouragement to those around us.
Application
To further understand the value of humility, consider these verses: 1 Peter 5:6, which says, "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you," and Philippians 2:3, which states, "Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves." These verses reinforce the message that humility leads to God's favour and the well-being of our relationships.
Invitation
If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to visit the nearest Church of Christ, where you will be assisted to obey the gospel of Christ: through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).
I encourage you to put today’s message into practice. Embrace humility and let God lift you up in His time. Share this message with your loved ones, spreading the beauty of living a humble life in Christ.
Concluding Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for teaching me about the strength found in humility. Help me to live a humble life, trusting that You will lift me up in Your perfect timing. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
I encourage
you to share your thoughts on today's meditation with me so I know how you have
received the message.
May the Lord bless your day.
