No. 271 - Learn from Me

The Humility of God’s Son

Learn from Me

Matthew 11:29 (ESV)

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, open my heart to understand and embrace the humility of Jesus. Help me to learn from His example and apply it in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Matthew 11 highlights Jesus' teachings and His invitation to all who are weary and burdened. In verse 29, Jesus calls us to take His yoke and learn from Him, emphasizing His gentleness and humility. This chapter shows Jesus' compassion and His desire for us to find rest in Him.

Be Encouraged

Jesus invites us to take His yoke upon ourselves, promising that His yoke is easy and His burden is light. Unlike the heavy burdens imposed by the world, Jesus offers rest and peace through His gentle and humble heart. Imagine carrying a heavy load and then being offered help by someone stronger and kinder. This is what Jesus offers us every day. His humility is a powerful reminder that we don't have to struggle alone.

Furthermore, Jesus' call to learn from Him is an ongoing process. Every day we have opportunities to grow in humility by serving others, showing kindness, and being patient. Think of how a student learns from a wise teacher, observing and imitating their ways. In the same way, we can learn from Jesus, the ultimate example of humility and gentleness. As we follow His example, we become more like Him and bring His peace into our lives and the lives of others.

Application

To apply today's message, consider these verses: Philippians 2:5, which says, "Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus," and Colossians 3:12, which urges us to "put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience." These verses encourage us to adopt the mindset of Christ and to live out His humility in our daily interactions.

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to experience His love and humility. Visit a nearby Church of Christ to learn more and find support in your walk with God. Begin your journey with faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).

I encourage you to put today’s message into practice. Let Christ's humility shine through you and share this message with your loved ones, spreading His love and example.

Concluding Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for teaching me about the humility of Jesus. Help me to follow His example and live a life that honours You. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
