No.254 - Love in Action

The Love of God’s Children

Love in Action

1 John 3:18

"Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth."

Starting Prayer

Lord, grant me insight as I reflect on Your Word today. Help me understand how to show love through my actions, not just in words. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In 1 John 3, the apostle John emphasizes the importance of genuine love among believers. He encourages them to demonstrate love not only through words but also through actions and truth. The selected verse urges believers to go beyond mere verbal expressions of love and to demonstrate it tangibly in their deeds. Today's title concludes this week's theme on the love of God's children, emphasizing the practical aspect of love.

Be Encouraged

Love is not merely a feeling or something we say; it is demonstrated through our actions. Just as Jesus showed His love for us by laying down His life, we are called to love one another sacrificially and genuinely. This means actively seeking ways to meet the needs of others, showing kindness, compassion, and selflessness in our interactions.

Practically, love in action can be seen in simple acts of service, such as helping someone in need, comforting the grieving, or offering a listening ear to a friend in distress. It involves putting others before ourselves and considering their well-being above our own desires. When we love in deed and truth, we reflect the character of Christ and glorify God.

Additional Verses

- James 2:17: "So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."

- 1 Corinthians 16:14: "Let all that you do be done in love."

Invitation

I invite you to join us in living out love in action, following the example of Christ. Let us not only speak of love but demonstrate it through our actions, glorifying God and spreading His love to others. If you have not yet given your life to Christ, I invite you to join us in walking in love as Christ did. Visit any Church of Christ near you where you can be assisted to obey the Gospel through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). Please share this message with others, inviting them to experience the same joy and fulfillment found in Christ.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank You for the reminder to love in action, not just in words. Help me to demonstrate Your love through my deeds and to walk in truth. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
