No. 265 - The Blessing of Giving

The Generosity of God’s Hands

The Blessing of Giving

Acts 20:35

"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’"

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, please open my heart to understand the true joy and blessing that comes from giving. Help me to follow Your example and to be generous in all things. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Acts 20 recounts Paul's farewell speech to the Ephesian elders. He reminds them of his hard work and dedication to the gospel. In verse 35, he quotes Jesus' words, highlighting the blessing of giving. This passage teaches us the importance of helping others and living a life of generosity.

 Be Encouraged

The words of Jesus remind us that giving brings more blessings than receiving. Think about a time when you helped someone in need. The joy you felt was not just because you did a good deed, but because you experienced the blessing of giving. When we give, we reflect God's generous nature and bring light into the lives of others.

Consider a teacher who dedicates extra time to help struggling students. Their efforts not only help the students succeed but also bring fulfilment and joy to the teacher. Similarly, when we give our time, resources, or love, we are blessed in ways that material wealth cannot measure. Proverbs 19:17 says, "Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed." Our acts of generosity are investments in God's kingdom.

Application

Today's scripture calls us to embrace a generous lifestyle. Whether it's through volunteering, supporting a friend, or giving to those in need, our actions can make a significant impact. Remember, true generosity is not just about money. Your time, talents, and kindness are valuable gifts you can share.

Reflect on how you can give more freely in your daily life. James 1:17 reminds us, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights." Let us use the gifts we have received to bless others, knowing that God will bless us in return. By giving, we draw closer to God and experience the fullness of His blessings.

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, now is the perfect time to experience His love and generosity. Visit a nearby Church of Christ to learn more and find support in your walk with God. Begin your journey with faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38).

For those already in Christ, I encourage you to put today’s message into practice. Let your generosity shine and share this message with your loved ones, spreading the love and blessings of God.

Concluding Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for teaching me about the blessings of giving. Help me to live a life of generosity and to reflect Your love in all I do. May my actions bring joy to others and glory to Your name. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

I encourage you to share your thoughts on today's meditation with me so I know how you have received the message.

May the Lord bless your day.
