Labourers for the Harvest

The Call of God’s Mission

Labourers for the Harvest

Matthew 9:37-38 (ESV)
"Then he said to his disciples, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.'"

Starting Prayer
Heavenly Father, guide my understanding as I explore Matthew 9:37-38. Open my heart to the significance of being a labourer for Your harvest. May I be willing and ready to engage in Your mission. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background
In Matthew 9, Jesus observed the crowds and recognized the great need for labourers to bring in the spiritual harvest. The metaphor of the harvest emphasizes the urgency and abundance of those ready to receive the gospel. Jesus encourages His disciples to pray for more workers to join in the mission of spreading God's message.

Be Encouraged
The image of a plentiful harvest waiting to be gathered is a powerful metaphor for the abundance of souls ready to receive God's love. In Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus urges us to be active labourers, participating in His mission to reach the lost.

Consider Luke 10:2:
"And he said to them, 'The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore, pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.'"

Reflect on John 4:35:
"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest."

Imagine a field of ripe fruit, representing souls ready for the gospel. Each believer is called to be a labourer, actively engaged in bringing in the harvest. Your willingness to share the message contributes to the growth of God's kingdom.

Today's title, "Laborers for the Harvest," emphasizes the call to actively engage in God's mission, recognizing the abundance of souls ready to receive the gospel.

Why not commit yourself to joining the labourers in God's mission field by first believing in the saving grace of Christ, repenting from your sins and being baptised to wash away your sins? You are invited to respond to the call to be a labourer in God's harvest.

Concluding Prayer
Lord, thank You for the privilege of being a labourer in Your harvest. Equip me for the task, and may I work diligently in Your mission. In Jesus' name, I express my gratitude. Amen.
