No. 320 - Finding Refuge in God’s Protection
The Armour of God’s
Protection
Psalm 91:4-5
"He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day."
Starting Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for being my refuge and protector. Help me to trust in Your protection and to rest in Your presence. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
Psalm 91 is a beautiful song of trust and assurance in God's protection. It was written to encourage believers to find comfort in God's care, especially during times of trouble. Verses 4-5 describe God as a protective figure, comparing Him to a bird that covers its young with its wings, showing the safety and security that come from being close to Him.
In these verses, the imagery of being covered by God’s feathers speaks of His loving protection and comfort. The "shield and buckler" signify the strength and defence God provides against fear and danger. This psalm reminds us that we can find safety in God, no matter what threats we face in life.
Be Encouraged
Imagine a baby bird nestled under the protective wings of its mother, safe from harm. In the same way, God desires to wrap us in His loving care, shielding us from the dangers that threaten our peace. We may face fears, uncertainties, and challenges, but God's protection is like a warm embrace, reminding us that we are never alone.
When we trust in God’s protection, we can walk through our days without fear. Think about the times you have faced difficult situations but felt a sense of peace. This peace comes from knowing that God is our refuge. Just as soldiers wear armour for protection, we can arm ourselves with faith and trust in God, allowing His truth to guard our hearts and minds.
Application
Consider
these verses to enrich today's message:
Isaiah
41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My
righteous right hand."
Proverbs
18:10 "The name of the Lord is a
strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."
Invitation
If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to visit any nearby Church of Christ. Through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38), the Lord will add you to His church. Here, you will continue to learn more about God and put into practice Christ's commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). Reflect on today’s message and allow the Spirit to guide you in making this important decision. Share this message with your loved ones and encourage them to seek God's refuge as well.
Concluding Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for Your promise of protection and the assurance that I can find refuge in You. Help me to trust in Your truth and live without fear. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
May the Lord bless your day.
