No. 337 – Give God the Glory Due His Name
The Praise of God’s Glory
Give God the Glory Due His Name
Psalm 96:7-8
"Give to the Lord, O families of the
peoples, Give to the Lord glory and strength. Give to the Lord the glory due
His name; Bring an offering, and come into His courts."
Starting Prayer
Dear Lord, as I come to You today, please
help me understand the importance of giving You the glory that is due to Your
name. Open my heart to honour You with my words, actions, and offerings. In
Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
Psalm 96 is a
powerful invitation to all the earth to worship the Lord. It calls on people
from every nation to acknowledge God’s glory and power. The psalm encourages us
to worship not only with words but also with actions, bringing offerings before
Him. Verses 7-8 focus on giving God the honour He deserves, reminding us that
He is worthy of all our praise and worship.
Be Encouraged
The psalmist
calls on the "families of the peoples" to give God the glory due to
His name. This is a reminder that everyone, regardless of their background, is
invited to worship the Lord. God's glory is so great that it deserves to be
recognised by all creation. We are not to withhold anything from Him but rather
give Him our best—our glory, strength, and offerings. This goes beyond our
words; it includes how we live our lives. When we offer our time, talents, and
resources to God, we are acknowledging His greatness.
Our offerings
to God can take many forms. While we may think of financial contributions,
offerings can also be our acts of service, prayers, or even our daily devotion.
In Romans 12:1, Paul urges us to present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy
and acceptable to God, which is our reasonable service. By giving God what He
deserves, we are showing that we value Him above all else. This is the essence
of worship—giving God the glory that belongs to Him alone.
Application
Giving glory
to God is not just something we do on Sundays; it should be a daily practice.
In 1 Chronicles 16:29, we are reminded to “Give
to the Lord the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him. Oh,
worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness!” Our daily lives should reflect
our reverence for God. Whether it is through prayer, serving others, or sharing
the gospel, we should always seek to glorify Him. Hebrews 13:15 also encourages
us to offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually—that is, the fruit of
our lips, giving thanks to His name.
Invitation
If you have
not yet committed your life to Christ, I urge you to visit a nearby Church of
Christ to be guided on how to obey the gospel. Through faith (Hebrews 11:6),
repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of
your sins and salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38), you can begin a new life in
Christ. The Lord will add you to His church, where you will continue to learn more
about Him and how to live a life that brings Him glory (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts
2:47). Today is the day to start this journey and give God the honour He
deserves. Let His glory transform your life. Share this message with others and
let them see God's greatness through your actions.
Concluding Prayer
Dear Father, I thank You for reminding me
of the importance of giving You the glory that is due to Your name. Help me to
live each day in a way that honours You, offering You my time, talents, and all
that I have. May my life be a reflection of Your greatness. In Jesus' name I
pray. Amen.
May the Lord
bless your day.
