No. 335 - Grateful Hearts, Glorious Praise

The Praise of God’s Glory

Grateful Hearts, Glorious Praise

 Psalm 107:8 (NKJV)

"Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!"

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to recognise Your goodness and respond with a grateful heart. Open my eyes today to see Your works in my life and teach me to praise You with all my being. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Psalm 107 is a psalm of thanksgiving, reflecting on the many ways God has delivered His people from trouble. It calls upon everyone to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and His marvellous works. The verse we are focusing on today, Psalm 107:8, is repeated throughout the psalm, reminding us of the need to continually praise God for His great deeds. It is a call to gratitude and an invitation to reflect on God’s faithfulness in our lives.

Be Encouraged

Psalm 107:8 encourages us to take time to thank God for His goodness and for the great things He has done for us. Often, we may be tempted to focus on what we lack or the difficulties we face. Yet, when we pause to reflect on God's goodness, we realise how many blessings He has poured into our lives. Whether it’s the gift of life, the love of family and friends, or the strength to get through each day, God’s works surround us constantly. Like the psalmist, we are invited to give Him thanks.

Gratitude is a powerful tool that shifts our focus from our problems to the goodness of God. When we cultivate a grateful heart, we can see God's hand at work in ways we might have overlooked before. Philippians 4:6 encourages us, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” Even in our times of need, we can approach God with thanksgiving, confident that He will continue to care for us as He always has.

Application

Let us make it a habit to give thanks to God daily. Colossians 3:15 says, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." As we go about our day, let us pause to acknowledge God's presence and express our gratitude for His care. Another verse to keep in mind is Psalm 136:1, which reminds us, "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever." Our praise not only honours God but also lifts our spirits as we focus on His enduring mercy and love.

Invitation

If you have not yet given your life to Christ, I encourage you today to visit a nearby Church of Christ to learn more about obeying the gospel. Through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of your sins and salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38), you can be added to the Lord’s church. He will lead you in learning more about His ways and applying His commandments in your life (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:47). Embrace the joy that comes from knowing Christ and begin living a life of grateful praise. Let today be the day you take this step and commit your life to God.

Concluding Prayer

Dear Father, I thank You for Your goodness and the countless blessings You have given me. I am grateful for Your love and mercy, and I praise You for all Your wonderful works. May my heart always be filled with gratitude and my lips with praise. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
