No. 332 – God's Majestic Name

The Praise of God’s Glory

God's Majestic Name

Psalm 8:1

"O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens!"

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, as I come before You today, help me to see the greatness of Your name and to praise You with all my heart. Open my eyes to the wonders of Your creation and the glory of Your presence. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Psalm 8 is a beautiful psalm of praise, written by King David, reflecting on the majesty of God’s creation and the special place of humanity within it. David marvels at how God, who is so mighty and exalted, cares for mankind. This psalm shows the connection between God’s glory and the value He places on human beings. Verse 1 sets the tone for the entire psalm by declaring the excellence of God’s name and His glory above the heavens. Today's title, "God's Majestic Name," begins our theme for the week.

Be Encouraged

The name of God is majestic and powerful, and it is worthy of all our praise. When we look at the world around us—the vastness of the sky, the beauty of nature—we are reminded of God’s greatness. David, in this psalm, expresses awe at how the Creator of the universe is also deeply concerned with humanity. This should encourage us to approach God with both reverence and confidence, knowing that He is both mighty and loving.

In our everyday lives, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness and challenges that we face. But when we pause to reflect on the majesty of God’s name and His creation, it helps us put things into perspective. We serve a God whose glory is above the heavens, yet He is near to us, hearing our prayers and guiding our steps. Let this be a reminder to praise God in every situation, acknowledging His greatness and trusting in His care.

Application

Isaiah 42:8 says, "I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another." Also, in Revelation 4:11, we read, "You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created." These verses highlight the uniqueness and majesty of God's name and the praise that is due to Him alone.

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to experience the majesty of God's name in your life. Visit any nearby Church of Christ, where you will be assisted to obey the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins and your salvation (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you will continue to learn more about God and put into practice Christ's commandments (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:47). Let the greatness of God's name fill your heart and guide your steps. Share this message with your loved ones and encourage them to praise God for His excellent name.

Concluding Prayer

Dear Father, I thank You for revealing the majesty of Your name and the glory of Your creation. Help me to live each day in awe of Your greatness and to share Your goodness with others. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
