No. 287 - The Purifying Power of Christ's Blood

The Sacrifice of God’s Lamb

The Purifying Power of Christ's Blood

Hebrews 9:14

"How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God."

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, please open my heart and mind to understand the power and significance of Christ's sacrifice. Help me to apply this truth in my life and live in a way that honours You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

The book of Hebrews explains the supremacy of Christ and His new covenant over the old covenant. Chapter 9 discusses the limitations of the old sacrificial system and highlights the superior, once-for-all sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Verse 14 focuses on the purifying power of Jesus' blood, which cleanses our conscience and enables us to serve God faithfully.

Be Encouraged

Today's scripture reminds us of the immense value of Jesus' sacrifice. Unlike the repeated sacrifices of the Old Testament, which could not permanently remove sin, Jesus offered Himself once for all. His perfect, sinless blood has the power to cleanse our conscience from dead works, allowing us to serve the living God. This truth brings us great hope and assurance, knowing that through Christ, we are truly forgiven and purified.

Consider a dirty window being thoroughly cleaned. Once cleaned, it allows light to shine through clearly. Similarly, Jesus' sacrifice purifies our hearts, enabling us to reflect God's light in our lives. We no longer need to carry the burden of guilt and shame; instead, we can live in the freedom and joy of serving God with a clear conscience.

Application

To deepen today's message, reflect on these verses: 1 John 1:7, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin," and Titus 2:14, "who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works."

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to visit any nearby Church of Christ to be assisted in obeying the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you can continue to learn and grow in your relationship with Him (Matthew 28:18-20).

For those already in Christ, let us live in gratitude for Jesus' sacrifice. Share this message of hope and love with others, encouraging them to embrace the cleansing and freedom that come from knowing Christ. Share this meditation with your loved ones and inspire them to reflect on the significance of Jesus' sacrifice.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank You for the cleansing power of Jesus' blood. Help me to live in the freedom and joy of serving You with a pure heart. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
