The Celebration of God’s Kingdom
Inheriting the Kingdom
Matthew 25:34
"Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.’"
Starting Prayer
Dear Lord, as I reflect on Your promise of inheriting the kingdom, open my heart and mind to fully understand and embrace Your words. Guide me in living a life worthy of Your kingdom. In Jesus' name. Amen.
Background
In Matthew 25 Jesus discusses the judgement of the nations after the destruction of Jerusalem (Matthew 24). The chapter includes the parables of the Ten Virgins and the Talents, and it concludes with a vivid description of the final judgement. In Matthew 25:34, Jesus speaks about the rewards for the righteous, highlighting the blessings prepared for them since the beginning of time.
Be Encouraged
Inheriting the kingdom of God is the ultimate reward for those who follow Jesus. This promise is not just about a future event; it influences how we live today. Knowing that we are invited to inherit a kingdom prepared by God Himself gives us a profound sense of purpose and destiny. It reminds us that our faithfulness and good deeds are noticed and valued by God.
Imagine the joy and fulfilment of hearing the King say, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father." This invitation is not just a reward but a welcome into eternal fellowship with God. It encourages us to persevere in doing good, helping those in need, and living out our faith daily. Each act of kindness, each moment of faith, is a step towards that glorious inheritance.
Application
Reflect on James 2:5, "Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to those who love him?" Also, remember Ephesians 1:18, "having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints."
Invitation
If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, now is the time to accept His invitation to inherit the kingdom. Visit a nearby Church of Christ to learn more about obeying the gospel through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you can grow in faith and follow Christ’s teachings (Matthew 28:18-20). Embrace the opportunity to be part of God’s eternal kingdom.
Concluding Prayer
Thank You, Lord, for the promise of inheriting Your kingdom. Help me to live each day in a way that honours You and prepares me for the eternal blessings You have prepared. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
May the Lord bless your day.
