No. 288 - Behold the Lamb of God

The Sacrifice of God’s Lamb

Behold the Lamb of God

John 1:29 (ESV)

"The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!’"

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to understand the deep meaning of Jesus as the Lamb of God. Open my heart to fully grasp the significance of His sacrifice for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In John 1, John the Baptist introduces Jesus as the Lamb of God. This chapter highlights the identity of Jesus and His mission to take away the sin of the world. John the Baptist's declaration points to Jesus' sacrificial role, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies and establishing Him as the Saviour.

Be Encouraged

Today’s verse shows us the heart of the gospel. John the Baptist recognised Jesus as the Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice who takes away the sins of the world. This title connects Jesus to the Passover lamb in Exodus, whose blood saved the Israelites from death. Jesus’ blood saves us from spiritual death and gives us eternal life.

Imagine carrying a heavy load, struggling with every step. Then someone comes and lifts that burden off your shoulders. This is what Jesus does with our sins. He removes the weight of guilt and shame, offering us freedom and peace. His sacrifice means we can live without the fear of condemnation and be reconciled with God.

Application

To further reflect on this message, consider these verses: 1 Peter 1:19, "but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot," and Revelation 5:12, "saying with a loud voice, ‘Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honour and glory and blessing!’"

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to visit any nearby Church of Christ. They can help you obey the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you can continue to learn more about God and put Christ’s commandments into practice (Matthew 28:18-20).

For those already in Christ, let us rejoice in the Lamb of God who takes away our sins. Share this message of salvation and hope with others, inviting them to experience the freedom and joy found in Jesus. Let’s encourage one another to live out this truth daily and spread the good news to our loved ones.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank You for being the Lamb of God who takes away my sins. Help me to live in the freedom and joy of Your sacrifice and to share this message with others. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
