No. 315 - Walking as Children of Light

The Fruit of God’s Spirit

Walking as Children of Light

Ephesians 5:9 "For the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true"

Starting Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, as I reflect on Your Word today, open my heart to understand and embrace the fruit of Your Spirit. Help me to walk in goodness, righteousness, and truth in every aspect of my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Ephesians 5 calls believers to live as children of light, contrasting the darkness of the world with the light of Christ. In verse 9, Paul highlights the fruits of the Spirit, emphasising the importance of goodness, righteousness, and truth in a believer's life. This chapter encourages us to imitate God and live in a way that reflects His character.

Be Encouraged

Living as children of light means that our lives should reflect the character of Christ. When we exhibit goodness, we show the world the love and compassion that God has for everyone. This can be as simple as helping a neighbour in need or speaking kind words to someone who is hurting. Our actions should always aim to bring light into the lives of others, pointing them towards Jesus.

Righteousness and truth are also vital aspects of living in the Spirit. Righteousness means living in a way that is pleasing to God, making choices that align with His will. Truth involves being honest and transparent in our dealings with others. In a world where deception and dishonesty are common, living a life of truth sets us apart and honours God. By striving to live in goodness, righteousness, and truth, we demonstrate the transformative power of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Application

To enrich the application of today's message, consider these verses:

Galatians 5:22-23: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."

Colossians 3:12: "Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering."

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to visit any nearby Church of Christ to be assisted in obeying the gospel of Christ. Through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38), the Lord will add you to His church. Here, you will continue to learn more about God and put into practice Christ's commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). Walking in the Spirit brings true freedom and joy that the world cannot offer. Share this message with your loved ones and encourage them to experience the same transformation in Christ.

Concluding Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for the insight and guidance You have provided today. Help me to always walk in Your light, reflecting goodness, righteousness, and truth. May I bear the fruit of Your Spirit in all that I do. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
