No. 313 - Walking in the Spirit

The Fruit of God’s Spirit

Walking in the Spirit

Galatians 5:16

"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

Starting Prayer

Heavenly Father, guide me today as I seek to understand what it means to walk in the Spirit. Help me to live a life that is pleasing to You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In Galatians 5, Paul contrasts the works of the flesh with the fruit of the Spirit. He urges the believers to walk in the Spirit to avoid fulfilling the desires of the flesh. The chapter emphasises living a life led by the Holy Spirit, which produces godly characteristics in us.

Be Encouraged

Walking in the Spirit means allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our lives. When we do this, we produce the fruit of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, and self-control. This way of living stands in stark contrast to following our own sinful desires. For example, just as a farmer tends to his crops to produce good fruit, we must also nurture our relationship with God to bear spiritual fruit.

A practical way to walk in the Spirit is by spending time in prayer and reading the Bible. These practices help us to stay connected to God and become more sensitive to His guidance. Imagine trying to navigate a complex city without a map; without the Holy Spirit’s guidance, our lives can become equally chaotic and directionless.

Application

To walk in the Spirit, we must rely on God daily. Romans 8:14 says, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." Additionally, Ephesians 5:18 encourages us to be filled with the Spirit. These verses remind us of the importance of a continual, intentional relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Invitation

If you have not yet committed your life to Christ, I invite you to visit a nearby Church of Christ to be assisted in obeying the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance from sin (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of all past sins to be saved (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you will continue to learn more about God and put into practice Christ's commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). The freedom and guidance of the Holy Spirit are available to you today. Embrace this opportunity and let your life be transformed by walking in the Spirit. Share this message with your loved ones and encourage them to walk in the Spirit as well.

Concluding Prayer

Lord, thank You for teaching me the importance of walking in the Spirit. Help me to apply this lesson in my daily life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
