No. 306 - Where the Spirit of the Lord Is

The Freedom of God’s Children

Where the Spirit of the Lord Is

2 Corinthians 3:17 (ESV)

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, as I reflect on Your Word today, grant me understanding and help me to live in the freedom Your Spirit provides. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

In 2 Corinthians 3, Paul contrasts the old covenant of the law with the new covenant of the Spirit. He explains that the letter of the law brings death, but the Spirit gives life. The key verse, 2 Corinthians 3:17, highlights that true freedom comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Be Encouraged

Freedom is a precious gift that many long for. In our world, freedom often means the ability to do whatever we want. But true freedom, as described in the Bible, is much deeper. It means being free from the power of sin and death. The Holy Spirit gives us this freedom, enabling us to live according to God's will.

Consider a bird released from a cage. Initially, it might be hesitant to fly, but once it realises it is free, it soars high. Similarly, when we accept Christ, the Holy Spirit sets us free from the bondage of sin. We are no longer confined by our past mistakes and fears. Instead, we can live a life full of purpose and joy, guided by the Spirit.

Application

Reflect on Romans 8:2, "For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death," and Galatians 5:1, "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery."

Invitation

If you have not yet experienced the freedom that the Holy Spirit provides, I invite you to visit a nearby Church of Christ. Learn more about how to enter into this freedom by obeying the gospel of Christ through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism by immersion, for the forgiveness of your sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you will continue to grow in faith and learn more about God’s commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). Embrace the freedom Christ offers and share this message of liberation with others, inviting them to experience the joy of being God’s children.

Concluding Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for the freedom You have given me through Your Spirit. Help me to live each day in the liberty You provide. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
