No. 307 - Freed from Sin, Servants of Righteousness

The Freedom of God’s Children

Freed from Sin, Servants of Righteousness

Romans 6:18

"And, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness."

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, as I reflect on Your Word today, open my heart and mind to understand the true meaning of freedom in Christ. Guide me to live as a servant of righteousness. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Romans 6 discusses the transformation that occurs when we become followers of Christ. Paul explains that through baptism by immersion, we are united with Christ in His death and resurrection. This union sets us free from the power of sin and makes us servants of righteousness.

Be Encouraged

In our everyday lives, we often hear about freedom as the ability to do whatever we want. However, true freedom in Christ means being released from the bondage of sin and living a life dedicated to righteousness. Imagine being freed from a heavy chain that has held you back for years. This is what Christ does for us. He breaks the chains of sin, allowing us to walk in newness of life.

Consider a person who has struggled with addiction. Once they are free from it, they don't simply go back to their old ways; instead, they embrace a new life, making choices that lead to health and well-being. Similarly, being freed from sin means we no longer live under its control but choose to live in ways that honour God. This new life is marked by actions and attitudes that reflect our commitment to righteousness.

Application

Reflect on Galatians 5:1, "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery," and Ephesians 4:24, "And to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness."

Invitation

If you have not yet experienced the freedom that comes from being a servant of righteousness, I invite you to visit a nearby Church of Christ. Learn more about how to enter into this freedom through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you will continue to grow in faith and learn more about God’s commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). Embrace the freedom Christ offers and share this message of liberation with others, inviting them to experience the joy of being God’s children.

Concluding Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for the freedom You have given me through Your Spirit. Help me to live each day in the liberty You provide and to serve You with all my heart. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
