No. 305 - True Freedom in Christ

The Freedom of God’s Children

True Freedom in Christ

John 8:36

"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed."

Starting Prayer

Heavenly Father, I seek Your guidance today as I reflect on the freedom that comes from Christ. Help me to understand and live in this freedom fully. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

John 8 records a discourse between Jesus and the Jewish leaders, focusing on the theme of true freedom. Jesus reveals that freedom comes from knowing the truth and being set free by the Son of God. John 8:36 underscores that real freedom is found only in Christ.

Be Encouraged

Imagine being bound by heavy chains, unable to move or live freely. This is the reality of a life without Christ—bound by sin and its consequences. Jesus came to break these chains and offer us true freedom. When we accept Him, we are no longer slaves to sin but free to live a life that honours God.

In our daily lives, we might feel trapped by various struggles and burdens. But Jesus assures us that if He sets us free, we are free indeed. This freedom is not just from sin, but also from fear, guilt, and shame. Embrace the liberty Christ provides and live confidently, knowing that you are no longer bound by the things that once held you captive.

Application

Reflect on 2 Corinthians 3:17, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom," and Romans 6:22, "But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life."

Invitation

If you have not yet obeyed the gospel, then you have not yet experienced the freedom that Christ offers. I invite you to visit a nearby Church of Christ. Learn more about how to enter into this freedom through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you will continue to grow in faith and learn more about God’s commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). Embrace the freedom Christ offers and share this message of liberation with others, inviting them to experience the joy of being God’s children.

Concluding Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for the freedom You have given me through Christ. Help me to stand firm and live in the liberty You provide. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
