No. 311 - Living by the Spirit

The Fruit of God’s Spirit

Living by the Spirit

Galatians 5:22-23

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law."

Starting Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to understand the fruit of Your Spirit and guide me to live according to these qualities every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Background

Galatians 5 contrasts living by the flesh and living by the Spirit. Paul lists the works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit to show the difference between a life led by human desires and one guided by the Holy Spirit. This title begins this week's theme, focusing on the transformative power of the Spirit in a believer's life.

Be Encouraged

The fruit of the Spirit demonstrates how our lives can change when we follow the Holy Spirit. Think of a tree that bears good fruit; it does so naturally because it is healthy and well-nourished. In the same way, when we stay close to God and allow His Spirit to guide us, we will naturally produce love, joy, peace, and the other qualities mentioned in Galatians 5:22-23. This shows others the freedom and transformation that come from a life in Christ.

Consider your daily interactions and how you can show these qualities. For example, showing kindness to someone who is having a bad day or practicing patience in a stressful situation can make a big difference. These acts reflect the work of the Holy Spirit in us and can inspire others to seek the same transformation in their lives.

Application

Reflect on John 15:5, "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing," and Ephesians 5:9, "for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true."

Invitation

If you have not yet experienced the freedom and transformation that come from being in Christ, I invite you to visit a nearby Church of Christ. Learn more about how to enter into this new life through faith (Hebrews 11:6), repentance (Acts 2:38; 17:30-31), and baptism for the forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38). The Lord will add you to His church, where you will continue to grow in faith and learn more about God’s commandments (Matthew 28:18-20). Embrace the fruit of the Spirit and share this message of hope and transformation with others, inviting them to experience the joy of living in God’s freedom.

Concluding Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for the insight into the fruit of the Spirit. Help me to live these qualities daily and to inspire others through my actions. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

May the Lord bless your day.
